The original 66th Recon squad was founded by Sgt Quick and Bongo in April 2003. Both Sgt Quick and Bongo were born in 1966, which is where the '66th' came from. Some of the other original members were AutoMag, Stash, SirBob, TTTiger, Satcom, Skelator, Toowork, Onslaught, Zippy, BLK Ice, Respice, Capt Hawk, Terror, Rootbeer, Yuri, FlyArmy, SPC J Miles and Sgt Beckham.
The 66th started out as a Nova Logic Land Warrior squad. We hosted our own server, and quickly started running our own custom maps. There were a few map makers back then, but the bulk of them were created by Bongo and Sgt Quick. Bongo created the smaller fast action CQB style maps and Sgt Quick created the larger, slower paced, more methodical jungle type maps. Our 'Man Hunt' style of play was created by Sgt Quick using his jungle maps. We still enjoy this type of play today.
The last game the original 66th played was Joint Operations. In late 2004, for a variety of reasons, our server ceased to exist. Our members went in different different directions.

In early 2005, DDay, Jimbou, Razor, Reaper, Sparky and Zippy were hanging out on the Tag co-op server and Teamspeak. You could find us there just about everyday playing Joint Operations - Escalation.
After a few weeks of playing with Tag, some of us were asked to join their squad...and we did. A short while after joining the Tag squad, we found that we had a difference of philosophy as to how a squad should be run. This was when we decided to form our own squad with the six of us as the founders/administrators. It was at this point that Zippy suggested that we revive the 66th Recon name. Since four of the six of us were with the 66th as a BHD squad, we decided to go for it. We adopted a simple code of conduct as a guide to fun play and welcomed all gamers to join us.
Many of our members have been playing Novalogic games since the original Delta Force. We were fortunate to have many talented map makers among us. Consequently we were able to run all custom maps on our servers.
As time went on, the 66th was looking for that next game. We've played Far Cry 2, Call of Duty, Battlefield Vietnam, Sniper Ghost Warrior, Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 3.
As 2011 comes to an end, we are a Battlefield 3 squad. Many of us old timer Nova Logic gamers are still in hopes that Angel Falls will be released and capture the game play that we like so much. We want to host our own servers (on our own equipment, not renting a server), make our own maps and have all players have access to all of the weapons on day 1.
The year 2012 has brought more change for the 66th. Of the 6 founders/admins that revived the 66th Recon in 2005, only 2 of us are still active (Sparky and Zippy). This has created a void in our leadership. We are trying to get back to our roots where the squad is run by a small group, instead of a single person. We believe this approach has served us well for the last 6 years. That being said, the majority of the 6 founders/admins have agreed to bring on new blood into our leadership. Meathead, Mike Gibb, Mustang and Yuri will be joining Sparky and Zippy as admins. They will have all the rights and decision making athority that was set up for the original 6 in 2005. Zippy has asked not to be an active admin on our servers, Teamspeak or our website. He remains active in all other aspects as an admin. Jimbou, Razor and Reaper are always 66th Recon and always will be founders/admin. If they decide to become active players again, they pick right up where they left off...like they never left.
The admins believe we have had a really good thing going here for years. We believe in the squad participating in the decision making process. We fully intend to get back on track to our founding philosophy...which includes but is not limited to: potential members approaching us to join (our no recruiting policy), squad members voting on issues (which includes bringing in new members) and keeping money out of this (as much as is possible).
